Bingo Starts
Bingo was started in Italy and France as a form of lottery. It was a strangely addictive game that people couldn't get enough of. When it came to America, it immediately spread through traveling carnivals. When a toy salesman stumbled upon one of these carnivals and saw the game being played, he realized that it could be a hit.
Lowes' Bingo Games
He started packaging the game and it sold out every time he printed new boards. Everyone loved playing Bingo. But it was not until a friendly pastor approached him that the game too off. The pastor needed to raise funds for his church. He realized that by charging admission to Bingo games, he could pay out winners while still leaving a good cut for the church. Since no one objected to the church making a little money, and since everyone loved to play, the game just took off.
Modern Bingo
Today, non-profits use Bingo games, even weekly Bingo games, as major fund-raisers. But it is not just the charity community. Modern governments like those in Italy and France make significant money off of regular Bingo games. The reason is that so many people like to play, with just a small entrance fee per person, the game can generate huge profits.
Why People Play Bingo
Today's Bingo is not like complicated games like roulette or baccarat. The rules are so simple, anyone can learn in less than a minute. Just take a card with numbers on it. When the caller calls a number that is on your paying card, you cover that number up. When you have a whole row that is covered, you stand up and yell "Bingo." You just won the game.
The Amazing Game of Bingo
It is estimated that there are over 100,000 weekly Bingo games being played around the world. That means that every few seconds, someone, somewhere is standing up and yelling "Bingo." The amazing thing is the game is not fading away, it is becoming more popular every day.
