Bingo Players
Bingo. It's a word that inevitably evokes images of your grandmother at the senior citizens' center. Children are often raised with the idea that Bingo is a gentle card game that one plays with grandparents in a retirement home. But this is far from being the case. Bingo is a game which is enjoyed across nations, across genders, and all over the age spectrum. It is a game played not only at senior citizens' centers, but also at parties, at casinos and clubs, and online.
So Who Plays Bingo, Anyway?
Bingo is so popular that there is an annual Bingo World Conference; the 2008 conference will be held in Las Vegas and its website can be found at Bingo Expo . Browsing the conference's information, one finds workshops on all aspects of the Bingo industry, and information on the forms of the game in various different countries and regions.
Now, forget every stereotype you ever learned about Bingo players. Some studies show that not only are there approximately 100 million Bingo players worldwide, but also that 80% of Bingo players are women between the ages of 30 and 50. The other 20% of Bingo players are men in the same age range. Studies also show that there is a fairly small number of Bingo players over the age of 65 - male or female.
Studies also show that female Bingo players tend to be stay-at-home moms (though not exclusively). For these women, the game is not only a game: it also allows them to interact with other people and chat with friends new and old. In other words, Bingo isn't just a game but rather a form of entertainment and a medium for social networking. Approximately 85% percent of Bingo players play their games online, and more than half of online Bingo players play every day. Those are quite impressive statistics.
Children need to be taught differently, it would seem: Bingo is a hot game among the trendsetter crowd every bit as much as or more than among their grandparents.
