Bingo Halls are Still Big

BINGO - it means many things to many people. Some play this classic game of chance at online casinos. Still others play on cruise ships or at bingo parties. But most people play the traditional way, at bingo halls.

Yet, even bingo halls vary from one to the next. Some are private entertainment facilities that offer their own regularly scheduled bingo games seven days a week . Some rent out their facilities to charitable organizations or other parties interested in hosting a bingo fund-raiser. Many “bingo halls” are just churches, synagogues, or schools, who use weekly bingo nights to raise funds and gather community members.

Bingo Hall Beginnings - Churches and Community Centers

But where did the concept of a Bingo Hall come from? Well, the idea can be traced back to the beginnings of Bingo in the U.S. The first group to organize a large scale Bingo game was a church badly in need of funds. One prominent church member came up with the idea of a community Bingo Night. The only problem was that the creator of Bingo, Edwin Lowe, had not yet developed a game with more than twelve cards. That meant that even if the church used multiple boxes of the same game, they would still be faced with the problem of several winners per game.

Fortunately, Lowe was inspired to create a game that could be used on a larger scale. He teamed up with a Columbia mathematician to create 6000 different cards. Once the cards were created, the church was able to host their long-awaited Bingo game. Because of its success, the idea took off, and soon churches everywhere were hosting weekly Bingo nights in their “Bingo Hall.”

Bingo Halls Stay Strong

Later on, the game spread to casinos in Vegas and Atlantic City. But many Bingo lovers preferred the wholesome atmosphere of church and school sponsored games. It was then that true Bingo halls began to sprout up around North America. These bingo halls catered to families and the elderly by providing all-day Bingo in a pleasant and smoke-free environment. Today, many of these bingo halls offer food, drinks, and a variety of specialty bingo games.

Playing Bingo in any type of Bingo hall is a fun way to enjoy a classic Bingo experience. Here, players get a chance to socialize in person with friends and neighbors while playing one of the best games around.
