Gambling as a Fund Raising Activity
There are many states and countries where gambling is prohibited by law. These countries contend that gambling is something that is immoral and damaging to society. Even so, these states often permit the use of certain gambling games for fund raising for a good cause. This makes a great deal of sense, since the whole point about immoral gambling is that people sometimes expend their money certain that they will win and they end up losing it for nothing. When the proceeds of a game go towards supporting a good cause the immorality is no longer there. When a person spends his money he is actually donating to charity. Such fund raising gambling is often very heavily regulated and limited to very specific gambling games.
Bingo Fund Raising
A game commonly used as a fund raiser is the game of bingo. Many churches and other religious institutions run bingo games with the intention of raising money for the institution. This is very common in the U.S.A. because of the separation of Church and State. The church has to create ways to fund itself and bingo games do so very successfully. This has created certain classic absurdities. Gamblers often pray for success in their endeavors, if the gambler's loss is G-d's gain, why is he praying? In addition, if gambling is immoral, isn't it absurd that the main institutions which host legal gambling are the absolutely moral churches?
A Fun Evening of Charity
Regardless of the answers to the questions raised in the previous paragraph, a bingo evening is an evening of fund raising for charity. The fun comes as a bonus. Those people who win are simply blessed by more luck. There is no reason to feel sad over lost cash at a fund raising bingogame. The cash will all go to good causes and it is always possible that the next game will be a luckier one. Giving charity and making money simultaneously is even more fun!
